Valentine’s Day can be successful, even when you’re solo.

Celebrating Valentine’s Day solo this year? Whether you’re single or in an LDR, there’s no need to wish the day away. Instead, you can make it a day for self-love where you celebrate your relationship with yourself, and take time to indulge in little pleasures. No need to be anti-Valentine when you don’t have a partner!

Thrift resellers can take advantage of this unique spin on the celebration. February is a month when buyers choose to upgrade their lives through gifts for themselves. As resellers, this is the time when listings are more than just romantic buys but also self-investments. You can choose to curate finds for buyers to treat themselves, or enjoy the finds for yourself.

We’re here to help your buyers celebrate Valentine’s day alone sans the overrated flowers, chocolates and jewelry combination lovers often give their significant others. This year, we’re all about making solo Valentine experiences that are beyond the ordinary but still memorable.

Valentine’s Day for single people

While almost half of adults in the U.S. are not married, findings from Pew Research Center show that around 30% of them are single—not married, not living with a partner and not in a committed relationship.  That’s a huge number of people who go through Valentine’s Day without being in any kind of relationship.

Some single people choose to celebrate it with friends, even coining the term “Palentines” or “Galentines” as a way of doing Valentine’s Day without a romantic partner. Others skip it altogether, but it’s too hard to avoid: it’s everywhere, from the dinner promos, to store decor, and even in social media posts. Avoiding it might feel like you’re in control, but making it work for you is more empowering.

Instead of romantically showing up for someone, why not show up for yourself? Claim the Valentine’s Day energy and use it to treat yourself to things you like. The thrift store is a goldmine for experiences you can curate, be it a cup of coffee, a cozy lounge day, or your home spa day.

The Cozy Valentine’s Day Lounging

Enjoy the day in bed with good-quality bedsheets you can find for less at the thrift shops (or from your favorite online reseller).  Lounging on the bed isn’t laziness, it’s soothing your nervous system. Not bedrotting, but resetting.

Here’s what to get:

  • Fluffy duvets
  • Wool blankets
  • Silk pillowcases (supports your skincare goals, too)
  • Linen bedsheets

Skip:

  • Synthetic fabrics
  • Pilling in the fabric
  • Loose stitches
  • Suspicious stains.

Tip: Put your reseller specs on and inspect items thoroughly for any signs of bugs or damage before buying. Then run them through a heavy-duty wash cycle several times depending on how dirty the item is (yes, even if the thrift shop/reseller says it’s been already washed!).

These items are practical, but feel luxurious even when thrifted. Listings for these items perform quite well; washed linen is included in Trending on Etsy’s list for 2026.

Sensual Nighttime Routines

Closely related to the cozy bed experience above, is a sensual routine to end the day. A long shower and soak in the tub, followed by cozy pajamas or sexy lingerie, can make you feel effortlessly great about yourself. The feel of smooth silk and plush fabric against your skin offers comfort and indulgence like no other.

Find these in the thrift shop:

  • Gently-used lingerie (As with other fabric items, wash thoroughly)
  • Plush towels
  • Unused scented candles still in the original packaging
  • Muted lamps for your bedside

Skip:

  • Bath products (even when sealed and in original packaging)
  • Underwear with stains
  • Underpants/panties (prone to hygiene issues)

Self-love does not always have to be about high-value experiences. Sometimes all you need is a warm but soothing light for your nighttime routine, or sleeping in comfy silk pajamas.

Book Shopping Spree

The mind is the arguably the sexiest part of the body. A Valentine book hunt in thrift shops would be an ideal activity for self-love and feeding your brain. The shops are nearly empty because of the celebration, giving you privacy and free rein while looking for books to take home. While you’re at it, take the time to include non-book items that upgrade your Valentine reading.

We recommend:

  • Books in your favorite genre (or not; it’s good to explore new things)
  • Bookstands
  • Magnetic bookmarks
  • Pens and highlighters (if annotating is your jam)

Skip:

  • Books with badly-damaged binding
  • Books with silverfish markings (uneven holes and silverfish themselves)
  • Moldy books (some develop mold in the store)

A good book keeps you hooked even after the holiday and becomes part of your space even after you’ve read it. Resellers know this, and books are more valuable once read.

Junk Journal Day

Pour out the day’s romantic energy into junk journaling. Again thrift shops are amazing for finding vintage stationeries and journals both new and from long ago.  This self-care experience allows you to be creative and put yourself out there, in journal form. No need for an audience, just a moment with your hands and thoughts.

We recommend the following:

  • Wax seals and stamps
  • Specialty paper pads
  • Stickers
  • Ephemera
  • Fountain pens and ink
  • Old magazines and newspapers

Skip:

  • Used markers
  • Yellowing pages (some papers degrade over time)

Junk journaling is never about creating perfect spreads. It’s about preserving moments and putting you in it, your creativity, along with thrifted, historied finds.

Coffee Love

A cup of coffee brewed the way you like it is already a good step towards self-love. Why not take it up a notch and build your own thrifted coffee bar? You can always find items that match your style in thrift shops without breaking the bank. Brew your first cup during Valentine’s Day and enjoy every cup thereafter.

Getting a coffee bar setup isn’t just decor—you’re going through the ritual of coffeemaking every day. Might as well make it truly yours.

What to get:

  • Coasters
  • Coffee mugs (of course)
  • Vintage stirrers
  • Mason jars for your coffee beans
  • A rack to serve as your coffee station
  • Measuring cups
  • Tea towels to wipe up mess

Skip:

  • Coffee makers (too much of a risk)
  • Mugs and cups with tiny hairline cracks

A Valentine’s Dance Class

Our suggestions above lean towards living life slowly and quietly, but what if we tell you a dance class serves as self-love, too? Enroll in a dance class of your choice-whether it’s ballroom dancing, hiphop or zumba. Dance is universal and great for the mind and body, plus you can score dance and workout outfits at any thrift store!

We recommend:

  • Sports bras/tank tops
  • Leggings
  • Leg and arm warmers
  • Leotards
  • Loose pants and tops
  • Special dance costumes (like tutus, dancesport dresses and suits)
  • Costume jewelry

Skip:

  • Dance shoes—they aren’t as practical as they seem to be when thrifted, as they already followed the shape of the previous wearer’s feet
  • Ill-fitting clothes

Now move that body, be comfortable with the uncomfortable and enjoy romance in your movements, literally and figuratively.

Heart Day, Gym Day

Don’t fancy dancing but love a good workout? A gym might be your territory, at home or with a community. Thrifting gym clothes not only saves money, it’s also kinder to the environment.  If you love the outdoors more, running and cycling are other options, and you can find every other outfit on the thrift rack.

We recommend:

  • Dry-fit tops and shirts
  • Running shorts/workout shorts
  • Jackets
  • Dumbbells
  • Resistance bands

Many activewear BOLO brands like Lululemon and Alo Yoga land on thrift shop racks, making them more affordable for sourcing inventory.

Tip: Making themed bundles for your listings attracts buyers more than having to search individual items.

The Bottomline

Reseller or buyer, a solo Valentine’s Day enriched with thrifted pieces is doable and practical. Indulging in these self-care rituals makes it still about love, even when you’re practically doing things solo. As long as you’re buying things with proper intention in mind, you’re good to go.

As resellers, we know how powerful thoughtful sourcing is. Even overlooked pieces become meaningful finds. Creating bundles that cater to self-care experiences is not just genius marketing strategy in play, but an attempt to look into the buyer’s needs and understand them.
