by Jasmin Mipaña •October 2, 2026

A combined shipping package

When buyers take a look at your listings, they don’t just look for great value. They also look for ways to save.

Combined shipping is an eBay feature which allows buyers to purchase different items from a seller and have them shipped together in one package. In short, your orders are bundled together. This feature is convenient for both buyer and seller.

As a reseller, knowing how to offer combined shipping on eBay will help in drive more buyers to your eBay store. They’ll love not only your items, but also how they can save on shipping. Here’s how to do it, step-by-step.

Before you start—what to know

  • You can offer combined shipping before the buyer has paid.
  • A combined shipping discount can still be given to a buyer after they paid, as a partial refund.
  • You’ll need to set up combined shipping rules first before you can offer combined shipping.
  • Not all items listed in your store are eligible for combined shipping, even if you offer this feature.

How to offer combined shipping on eBay

Step 1. Go to Shipping Preferences

On the website, go to your profile, choose Account Settings, go to Selling and choose Shipping Preferences.

Step 2. Set up your shipping preferences—flat shipping rules

There are three combined shipping rules you’ll need to set up: the flat shipping rule, the calculated shipping rule, and the promotional shipping rule. We'll discuss the first two. For flat shipping rules, you’ll need to add “profiles”. For each profile, you can add your desired amount for a specific item or item condition.

You can add as many profiles as you want, with conditions like add an amount for each additional item, subtract oradd a specific amount for more items, or offering free shipping. Naming each profile helps you to easily remember each rule. Don’t forget to click Save to finalize changes.

Step 3.  Set up your shipping preferences- calculated shipping rules

Calculated shipping costs depend on the buyer's location and the weight of the items. Click Edit on the Calculated shipping rule box, then choose Combine all item weights or Combine all item weights and subtract an amount.

Like in flat shipping, you will need to create profiles with specific rules, amount added or subtracted for each additional item, and a profile name. Save your changes once you're done.

Step 4. Enable the combined shipping option in your business policies.

To do this, go to Business policies, select one of your shipping policies, and scroll down to the combined shipping rule. Choose Flat Rule or Calculated Shipping Rule. Click Save.

Step 5. Assign a business (shipping) policy to a listing

Normally, when you make a listing, you can assign a business policy for that item right away. If you want to assign a listing or multiple listings to another business (shipping) policy with combined shipping enabled, just go to Business Policies and click on the shipping policy name. The next page will show you all the listings that fall under this policy. Click Edit selected (for a single listing) and assign it to a shipping policy that allows combined shipping.

If you wish to assign all the listings under the business policy you’ve chosen, you can also click Edit all (number of listings) settings.

That’s it—you now have combined shipping enabled. When you apply it to your listings, your buyers can buy several items from your store but receive it in a single package.

Frequently asked questions

Q: Is combined shipping the same as buying multiple identical items?

A: No. Combined shipping is when a buyer purchases several items from your shop (for example, a skirt, a sweatshirt, and a pair of pants), and you will ship all of these items in one package for a flat or a calculated shipping rate.

When your buyer pays for each identical item (for example, three shirts of the same brand and size but different colors), the discount applies to the item price, not from the shipping cost.

Q: What is the difference between business policy and shipping policy?

A: Think of business policy as a tree, with payment, shipping and return policies as its branches. Every business policy has these three, and these three policies can be tweaked depending on how the seller wants it to be.

Q: Which is the best combined shipping rule to choose: flat shipping rule or calculated shipping rule?

A: It depends on what kind of items you are selling. Lightweight items are best assigned to flat shipping rules, while heavier, more fragile items benefit from calculated shipping rules.
