How to get back on track and prevent suspensions from happening again.

Lori, an online reseller on Depop, was going through her listings when she received an email telling her account had been suspended. Panic ran through her as she racked her brain for a possible violation that caused her account suspension.

Like Lori, having your Depop account suspended is a source of worry. You might ask: What will happen to my sales? Will my customers get their orders? More importantly, will I get my account back?

Worries aside, experiencing account suspension is a relatively normal one, especially for sellers that are crossposting on several platforms. Account suspensions aren’t limited to sellers, though; buyers experience the same thing, and for many different reasons.

In this blog, we’ll be guiding you with uncovering account suspensions in Depop, common reasons for suspensions, making an appeal to restore your account, and how to prevent getting suspended in the first place.

What does a suspended account mean?

Suspensions can surprise both sellers and buyers out of the blue, especially if they’re not updated with Depop’s rules. This circumstance happens in other platforms, too.

Suspensions for sellers may mean income lost, bringing along a client base that’s unique to Depop. Some sellers prefer Depop for its free topic, free listings and social media-like features, which other platforms may lack. Ongoing transactions are suspended and buyers notified that they won’t be receiving their orders. Though refunds are made, getting your account suspended in the middle of a transaction may harm your shop’s reputation.

For buyers, account suspension has less dramatic consequences, other than not being able to make orders on the platform. For buyers who love Depop’s curated approach (like their new feature Outfits), this may mean one less platform to get trendy outfits and accessories.

Reasons for Suspensions

Puzzled why your seller account was suspended? Check if you have made the following violations:

  • Selling or listing prohibited items. Depop’s strict rules means immediate account suspensions for sellers listing counterfeits and knockoffs. Want to sell adult-only items? That’s a big no-no to Depop- along with a list of other prohibited items. Even accidentally selling a seemingly harmless item has its consequences.
  • Inappropriate language. Yes, even comments on items and messages exchanged between buyers and sellers count. Depop has zero tolerance on hate speech and racist remarks.
  • Suspicious activities. Actions like several failed attempts to add payment methods, and changing passwords again and again may trigger suspension. The same goes for receiving a huge amount of money in your account beyond what’s usual, and linking payment methods that’s not yours.
  • Bot activity: Depop prefers their sellers to be real humans, not bots. While timesaving, automations sometimes alert their systems that something isn’t right. These include listing many items in a short period of time, spam messages, and following/unfollowing other accounts too fast.  Using third-party automation tools is a major risk for a Depop account suspension.
  • Scamming. Scamming on Depop may mean several things: it could be deliberately hiding a flaw, requesting off-platform payments, or a price increase after an order is completed. offering discounts and deals off-platform and not shipping the items ordered also counts as scam tactics.

In Lori’s case, her account was suspended by listing an eyeshadow palette she used twice-which is in Depop’s list of prohibited items.

Is My Depop Account Suspended?

Other than the dreaded email message, yes, there may be signs that your Depop account is suspended. One is the “Access Denied” message on the screen, or the more direct “Your account is suspended” plastered upon logging in. Some users report not receiving an email, but it’s more on not finding it in their primary inbox (always check spam and promotions).

Once you’ve found the email, take note of its content; usually it tells you what violation has been made. Now you can start planning your appeal to restore your account.

How to Appeal for Depop Account Recovery

Important: Before you make an appeal, first head to Depop’s Help Center to find out why your account is suspended, if the email does not mention it specifically. Also equally important is being calm, but acting fast. The steps you make during the time your account is suspended may affect your account recovery process.

Here’s what you should do:

Fill in the form for submitting a request. You’ll need to provide your email, username, the subject of your request, the description of your situation. You may also need to provide a product ID if your issue is centered on a certain product. Also, be ready to provide screenshots of anything that could help your appeal.  This may include proof of account ownership, receipts, or documents for verification.

Use clear and polite language when submitting an appeal.

You may also appeal by sending an email to support@depop.com  or the Contact Us button on your app’s profile.

Don’t Make these Mistakes Trying to Recover Your Account

Lori’s first thought upon reading the suspension email: “I need to act fast”. She’s right, but sudden account suspensions can lead to rash decisions that may harm your account recovery.

These mistakes might cause a temporary account suspension to last way longer or result in permanent banning:

  • Creating a new Depop account = permanent ban.
  • Submitting an appeal in foul language
  • Spamming Depop support
  • Trying to log in in multiple devices
  • Ranting on social media- may come across as bad rep for Depop

Luckily, for Lori, she did none of these mistakes. After sending the appeal, she patiently waited for the resolution, and continued reselling on other platforms. This step may differ for everyone; while waiting, it’s helpful to regularly check your emails in case Depop sends you one. If they don’t, a follow-up after 5-7 days is reasonable enough.

Preventing Suspensions

Getting suspended on Depop is a blow to your business. Aside from being stressful to deal with, it can also put your reputation on the line and make you lose money. Preventing suspensions in the first place is the key to a smooth Depop seller experience. The following steps will help you prevent a suspension from happening (again):

  • Read Depop’s Community Guidelines religiously. Leave nothing to chance; your reselling business is at stake.
  • Watch your actions and language. Stay polite and grounded as a seller, even if buyers can’t (or won’t).
  • Remove flagged listings. If you have accidentally listed a prohibited item, causing a suspension, take it off the platform IMMEDIATELY. Don’t risk a suspension if it hasn't happened yet, or a permanent one.
  • Stop using bots. Follow Depop’s rules in listing and uploading photos.

A few reminders

Some suspension issues weigh heavily more than others; for example, an honest mistake (like Lori did) may merit only a temporary suspension, but repeated violations and serious offenses (e.g., foul language and selling stolen property knowingly) may result in a permanent ban.

For temporary suspensions, a week or two is a common timeline for resolution. While waiting for your suspension to be lifted, prepare to fix your account mistakes so  everything goes on smoothly once you’ve recovered your account.

If you are under a permanent suspension, you can still submit a second appeal provided you have the evidence. Depop will investigate your case accordingly.  Permanent suspensions may take longer to reverse (or not at all) but still, it’s best to appeal and take a chance.

The Bottomline

Account suspensions on Depop are stress-inducing as Depop’s rules are fairly strict. Yet suspensions are the platform’s way of keeping sellers and buyers safe when dealing with orders.

Acting quickly on your account suspension with calmness and professionalism makes for a faster account recovery process. You’ll be curating your items and reselling on Depop in no time, as long as you follow the correct process in appealing for your account.
