For anyone who sells curated items, Etsy might not be their first choice: it’s extremely crowded, with over 100 million items in listings. With such a large market and tight competition, you might want to ask, how am I going to make a sale on Etsy?

However,  many resellers who tried their luck on the platform actually succeeded, with trend-based product sourcing, careful tweaks with their marketing strategies, and a lot of patience. Treating Etsy like any other resell platform won’t work anymore without a properly laid-out plan.

Good thing, Etsy gives its users a tool that helps them make the best on the platform: the Etsy Seller Trends Report. Not a shortcut, but a powerful guide to know what’s best to sell, and how to position items so that it will actually sell.

We’ll be discussing the Seller Trend Report and why it matters for resellers. We’ll also be looking at trends that the latest Trend Report recommends for reselling, and some things to consider when reselling using Etsy.

What You Can Resell in Etsy

Etsy primarily served as a platform for selling handmade, personalized products, not for reselling only. Items for reselling on Etsy fall on four main categories: made by a seller, designed by a seller, handpicked by a seller, and sourced by a seller.  Reseller products fall into the handpicked by seller category, and includes:

  • Real vintage items (more than 20 years of age). Must be picked personally by the seller or curated from a collection
  • Items from nature. Rocks, dried flowers, geodes  count among the items allowed for resell, with adherence to Etsy policies.
  • Gift baskets. These are themed and individually sourced by the seller.

Real vintage items

This is the category which Etsy resellers can make their most sales and profits. Etsy’s rules regarding vintage are simple: Items must be more than 20 years of age. Authentication may be necessary for some items, as Etsy does not allow reselling of items that are vintage-inspired (newer items designed to look old, e.g., distressed jeans made from new material).

Items from nature

These may include live plants or plant parts (like dried rose petals) and nature-sourced crystals, rocks and other stuff found in nature. To make sure the items you resell are Etsy-approved, check out their House Rules for plants, herbs, seeds and soil.

Gift baskets

If you love putting together thrift gift baskets, then chances are you'll earn a lot in this category.  Etsy allows selling of gift baskets centered around a theme. Examples are artisan coffee gift sets with vintage mugs, beans and coffeemaking tools sourced from separate brands. What Etsy doesn’t like for this category is mystery gift boxes which buyers don’t specifically know what’s inside.

How Etsy Seller Trend Report Work (and make it work for you)

Etsy releases the very helpful Seller Trends report twice a year: one for Spring/Summer (SS) and Autumn/Winter (AW).  Just like fashion reports, these are issued usually a month or two before the next season begins.

The Seller Trend Reports contains the following:

  • Gifting and Occasions: A list of dates and events for the seasons
  • How to make it work for you: Try listing items that fit the upcoming celebrations (example, Mother’s Day for Spring/Summer and Halloween for Autumn/Winter)
  • Decor, style and gifting trends:  A breakdown of the trends coming from searches and purchases on Etsy. Themes appear in this section, making it easy for you to sell what’s on trend.
  • How to make it work for you: As well as listing items that are on-trend, it will help you improve your listings through keyword optimization so you’ll appear more on Etsy searches.

The report also includes keyword searches that have skyrocketed recently, inventory opportunities, how to style your curated items so buyers are likely to buy them together, and many other tips.

In addition to that, Etsy recommends using their reports for the following:

  • Styling inspirations
  • Promotion planning
  • Brainstorming content ideas
  • Etsy Ads promotions

No more guessing or randomly adapting other platforms’ seller reports-Etsy gives its sellers the guidance they need to make the most money selling on the platform. However, it’s not a spoonfed type of report: it actually allows sellers to think through the trends and tweak their styling while retaining every Etsy shop’s charm.

Using Etsy’s Seller Trend Report: Fall and Winter 2025 For Reselling Inspiration

As we wait for Etsy’s Seller Trend Report for Spring and Summer 2026, it does not mean we can’t make use of the latest Fall and Winter 2025 report anymore. As we are technically still in winter, these trends still work. Here are the top trends mentioned in the report, and our recommendations on what to resell:

Nonna Holiday

Warm and grandmotherly, the Nonna Holiday trend brings on nostalgic memories.

What we recommend for reselling: vintage plates, kitchenware, checkered tablecloths and napkins.

Supper Club

We see this trend as retro x vintage. Items are mostly centred on food service that’s making a statement.

What we recommend for reselling: vintage cutlery, crystal vases and glasses, bold centerpieces

Playhaus

Colorful and maximalist, the term fits the style: loud, colorful and fun.

What we recommend for reselling: items with bold colors, themed art kits and bright vintage toys

Nutcrackercore

The holidays may be over but this trend still edges out minimalism and pairs it with dainty ballet feels.

What we recommend for reselling: poufy, vintage lace dresses, dreamy and warm sweaters, vintage velvet items

Other trends mentioned in the report  are Gothmas and Shiver the Season.

While Etsy’s Seller Trend Report is based on factual data on the platform, remember that trends change fast and you as an Etsy seller should be ready for that. An item inspiration mentioned on the report does not mean it will become a best-seller pronto.

The twice-a-year release of the report helps in stabilizing these trends-you can still sell your inventory without worrying about it becoming off-season.

You may want to do the following alongside checking seller trend reports:

  • Checking the competition versus demand-yes, we encourage you to take a peek at other Etsy shops that sell the same categories you have.  You may use a third-party tool for this.
  • Checking listing counts, bestseller badges, and price ranges for similar items
  • Using Etsy’s Search tool to your advantage: Optimizing your listing for Etsy searches will help you show up in searches and gain buyers. Read how Etsy Search works here.

What to consider when reselling in Etsy

Before anything else, remember: Etsy is not an exclusive resale platform. It has strict rules on selling vintage items, gift sets, and items from nature. Therefore, as a reseller, this means you can’t just sell anything you’ve thrifted from other shops there.

Selling only resale items in  your Etsy shop may feel a little limiting sometimes, so we recommend including in your inventory items that fit in the other three categories (made by seller, designed by seller, and sourced by seller). For a comprehensive list of what can be sold on Etsy, we’d love you to take a look at this guide.

Some other things to consider:

  • Fees: Etsy has several fees for sellers, including set-up and listing fees. These are relatively low and make selling on Etsy easy for beginners.
  • Competition. Etsy is a large market, which means there are many potential buyers and competitors.
  • Etsy shop design: Making your shop attractive may incur additional costs.
  • Etsy SEO: Etsy makes learning SEO easy for sellers. Guides in their Seller Handbook  cover everything you need to know.
  • Policy awareness for resellers: You might want to read the fine print completely for this aspect if you want to sell successfully on Etsy.

The Bottomline

Etsy may not be an exclusive resale-only platform, but you can still resell successfully when you follow Etsy’s approved resell categories. Using the Seller Trend Report is always a smart move. The report, though not a definitive guide, allows you to take a look at the helpful insights that can improve your Etsy selling stats and drive more sales to your shop.
